EVALUATION OF THE HELSINKI DECLARATION ON PATIENT SAFETY IN ANAESTHESIOLOGY
The Helsinki Declaration on Patient Safety in Anaesthesiology was launched in 2010 by the European Society of Anaesthesiology and the European Board of Anaesthesiology. It sets out a vision for patient safety in anaesthesiology and lays down specific standards to which European anaesthesiologists may aspire in practice.
LPRSU conducted a two-year project, as part of the ESA's Helsinki Declaration Follow Up Project, to examine the uptake and implementation of the Helsinki Declaration, to map the extent of coverage, and identify regional differences and any discrepancies in implementation of its component elements.
During this mixed-methods study, we engaged with anaesthesiologists in European countries, with online surveys and telephone interviews. We undertook observations in hospitals. We have publications reporting our findings (for the surveys and for the telephone interviews).
You can find a copy of the Helsinki Declaration here.
