'FIT FOR SURGERY' OR 'FIT FOR LIFE'?
In our most recent research project, we are exploring the potential of using the perioperative encounter to promote regular exercise and physical activity. This is a mixed-methods study including a comprehensive systematic review as well as visits to sites in the UK to observe and to discuss how physical activity is promoted*. We aim to establish what methods are successful at promoting physical activity in the medium- to long-term, and the contexts that may enable this success
Because of the effects of the coronovirus (COVID-19) pandemic, we have been unable to carry out site visits to observe practice. In order to still capture valuable information, we are planning to engage with service providers and patient representatives in a series of remote focus group discussions.
We are currently conducting surveys to find out about patients experience of using services that promote physical activity, and the experiences of staff and providers that run these services.
